Led every one of his St. John's teams to the postseason (18 NCAA's and 6 NIT's) while compiling a 40-34 postseason record

Had eighteen 20 win seasons and averaged 22 wins per year

Reached the NCAA Final Four in 1985

Guided the Red Storm to the 1989 NIT championship over St. Louis

Compiled a 112-65 record in Big East competition, won a regular season crown once and tournament championships in 1983 and 1986

Awarded USBWA and NABC National Coach of the Year twice in 1983 and 1985, Big East Conference Coach of the Year 3 times (1983, 1985, 1986), named Metropolitan Coach of the Year five times (1970, 1978, 1983, 1985, 1986) and named Kodak Man of the Year in 1985

Enshrined in the New York City Hall of Fame

Inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992
