Mayo Gains Interest

Devin Mayo

Devin Mayo, a 2012 prospect out of Washington (DC) Friendship Collegiate is making his way to some camps this summer, in hopes of gaining an offer when September 1 rolls around.

Devin Mayo is a 5-10, 185-pound safety, and he's been to camps at Maryland and Pittsburgh so far. He talked about Pittsburgh's camp a little bit.

"I loved it, I loved the school," Mayo said. "I'll just keep working, though. They talked with my (head) coach (Aazaar Abdul-Rahim). I can't really talk to the college coaches, but my coach said they like me a lot. You never know if I might get offered down the road."

At the Pitt camp, Mayo got a lot out of the instruction offered by Pitt secondary coach Jeff Hafley.

"I really liked the DB coach," Mayo said. "That's one of the things that I really look for in choosing a college--the coach at my position. They have a strong, good, DB coach, and that's what I play."

Mayo hopes to get up to Pitt in the fall for one of their home games, for an unofficial visit. In fact, he already knows the game he'd like to come up for.

"I want to go to a Pittsburgh game and a West Virginia game this year," Mayo said. "West Virginia versus Pitt, I definitely want to be at that one. I‘m trying. I want to be in that game some day. Carl Fleming, he goes to Pittsburgh, he‘s a friend of mine. Carl, he loves it there. I just saw him."

He also camped at Maryland, which is practically in his backyard.

"Maryland, I did real good at Maryland," Mayo said. "At their camp, I was one of the top DBs. They talked to my coach, and they said I did a really good job. I'll try to keep in contact with them because I shined at their camp.

Mayo is done with camps for the summer, and will turn his attention back to getting ready for the season at Friendship. He did mention one other place he wouldn't mind taking an unofficial visit to.

"I really want to get to Virginia," Mayo said. "Virginia is doing some big things with their program. They're bringing in a lot of kids from Maryland and D.C. I definitely want to take that up."
