Ford Gets First Offer

Ford Gets First Offer

Bethel Park (PA) running back Bre' Ford landed his first offer last Wednesday, then later in the week, made it to Pitt for his first prospect camp of the summer.

The biggest news for Bre' Ford, was just getting that first initial written offer. That came Wednesday, as Buffalo offered him. Ford rushed for 900 yards as a sophomore in helping lead Bethel Park to a WPIAL championship in 2008. He followed that up with 1,700 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior.

With the first offer, and now knowing he has the chance to play Division I football, Ford may turn his focus to attracting more offers. Working out at the Pitt prospect camp was his first step.

"I did pretty good, I guess," Ford said. "I feel I could have run a little better in the 40, but I was able to showcase my talent."

Ford also made sure he stayed up at the front of the line in all the running back drills. At first, it was instincts, but after awhile, he found himself doing what the coaches wanted him to do, in some of the one-on-ones.

"I sort of knew some of the drills, because we basically do them every day," Ford said. "I also figured if no one else is stepping up, and no one else is going, then it has to be me."

Ford knows that Pitt already has some offers out to some big-time running backs, but he said he would be willing to wait if Pitt came with an offer.

"I think they are (interested), they're there for sure," Ford said. "They're taking it slow for me, especially since I'm a local guy. I think they're also showing interest, because I'm a local guy.

"I'm not sure, I know I'm on their recruiting list, but I'm not sure where I rank. I don't even know what position I'd play. A lot of schools have told me I can play offense and defense."

With the Buffalo offer in hand, Ford will be taking his talents to Bowling Green this week to work out at the camp, in hopes of landing an offer from the Falcons. He's also had some interest from West Virginia and Rutgers.

"I was patient (waiting for the first offer)," Ford said. "A lot of people told me I would be (offered), and that I should have offers. I just try to work hard, and have a little faith. I went to West Virginia's junior day. Right now, it's just Bowling Green (for camp), then I'm going up to visit Buffalo later this month."

Also as a junior, Ford was a member of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 and the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Terrific 25.
