Hollins Could Pull Trigger On Visit

Juantez Hollins, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive end, could be the next Aliquippa, Pa. High School athlete to play football at Pitt.

Juantez Hollins will take an unofficial visit to Pittsburgh Tuesday to talk with Panthers coach Dave Wannstedt and defensive line coach Greg Gattuso. There's a good chance that Hollins could verbally commit to Pitt after that.

"I like Pitt a lot, and my mom would like me to go to Pitt, because it's close to home,'' Hollins said. "I don't think she wants me to go too far away. I would like it, too. It's a good school, and the football team is on the rise. And at least I would know some guys already, so that would be all right.''

Aliquippa's pipeline to Pitt has been rich from tight end Mike Ditka, who was a senior in 1960, to wideout Jonathan Baldwin, who will be a freshman this fall. Former Quips star Brandon Lindsey, a redshirt freshman will battle for playing time as an outside linebacker this upcoming season as well.

"Sure, I'd like to play ball with Brandon and Jonathan again,'' Hollins said. "That would be great. So, we'll see what happens.''

Hollins is athletic enough to play either offense or defense and with his size, speed and strength could make an immediate impact. Actually, he's the type of player who Wannstedt could get into camp and move to the offensive line. With his wing-span and quickness, Hollins could be an excellent offensive tackle.

Along with Pitt, Hollins has been scholarship offers from Buffalo and Marshall, and "letters from a couple other schools'' as well. But it all seems to come back to Pitt during a conversation with Hollins.

"I like to compete against the best players, and that's why I come to the camps at Pitt,'' Hollins said. "I also like the way the team plays. They work real hard, and that's the type of people I want to be playing with in college.''

So, all that's left is for Hollins to make a commitment to Pitt.
