NEW YORK, N.Y.— Former Pitt offensive tackle Mike McGlynn and cornerback Kennard Cox were selected Sunday afternoon in the second day of the NFL Draft, giving Pitt three representatives in the 2008 draft. McGlynn was a fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles as the 109th overall pick, while Cox was selected in the seventh round by the Buffalo Bills as a compensatory selection.

Mike McGlynn, an Austintown, Ohio, native, played in all 47 games during his Pittsburgh career, including starting 42 of his final 43 contests as a Panther.

"I have been watching the draft all day on pins and needles,” McGlynn told philadelphiaeagles.com. “When you see certain guys go at your position, obviously, you wish you were picked and all that. But, really, I got a home in Philadelphia and I just have to come in and earn my spot on the team and work my tail off. I am going to come in and try to get Philadelphia back into the Super Bowl."

The Eagles acquired the pick in a trade with the Carolina Panthers, who used the opportunity to draft another former Pitt player, Jeff Otah, who went in the first round to the Panthers.

Otah, who was the 19th pick overall, brought Pitt notable mention as the only team in the Big East to have a player go in the first round in both 2007 (Darrelle Revis) and 2008. Otah was also the highest-drafted Big East player this season.

Kennard Cox, a Miami, Fla., native, started the final 24 games of his career, concluding his time at Pitt with 98 tackles. In 2006, he was named the Panthers’ Most Improved Defensive Player. In 2007, he helped lead the Pitt defense to a No. 5 ranking in total defense in the country, giving up just 297.67 yards per game, while Pitt’s pass defense was ranked third (167.25 yards/game).

"I think it's a great thing,” Cox told Chris Brown of buffalobills.com. “I'm just blessed that they decided to use a pick on me. I wasn't expecting the weekend to be this long, but you've got to be patient sometimes. You've got to wait your turn and Buffalo was my turn."
