McGlynn In Senior Bowl

While Jeff Otah has been rated highly enough by several scouting services to justify being taken in the first round during the NFL Draft in three months, Mike McGlynn wasn't afforded a similar ranking. Until this past week.

Jeff Otah and Mike McGlynn, the Pittsburgh starting tackles last fall, were invited to the annual Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. The 6-foot-6, 340-pound Otah will have to rest on his laurels, because he backed out due to an unspecified injury. The 6-5, 315-pound McGlynn, however, has a shot to improve his stock.

After this past season, McGlynn was represented by XAM Sports and Entertainment Agency and trained in Orlando, Fla. He no longer has them as his agents, but the workouts appear to have paid off. McGlynn has received rave reviews by some scouts during Senior Bowl practices this past week and is looked at as a versatile lineman who can play multiple positions.

The game is Saturday at 3 p.m. and will be televised by the NFL Network.

"I think I've had a decent week in practice,'' McGlynn said. "I've played mostly as a guard, but I think the coaches and scouts know I can play at a couple different spots on the line. I got a chance to show them this past week.''

While McGlynn doesn't have the athleticism or body type that some teams covet for an offensive lineman, McGlynn's versatility -- he was used primarily as an offensive guard by the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff on the South squad -- piqued interest from Cincinnati Bengals scouts. The Cleveland Browns have also interviewed him and watched him closely.

One report noted that McGlynn served up pancakes like IHop during practice sessions. Once he got his hands on an opponent it was over, the report said. McGlynn is very strong and held his blocks well at the point of attack. He didn't get beat once during man-on-man drills. (And) he's very durable.

McGlynn finished his career as a four-year starter at Pitt. He played in every game (47) from 2004-07, making 42 starts. In addition to tackle, McGlynn also saw duty at offensive guard and contributed as a long snapper.
