Bostick Is Back

Bostick Is Back

Pitt's quarterback derby just got a little more interesting.

After discussing the situation with University of Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh Sunday night, freshman quarterback Pat Bostick has decided to return to the team Tuesday.

According to Pat Bostick Sr: "We're driving out (Tuesday) morning. Speaking for Pat, he's just really excited to get back with his teammates and the coaching staff. He's looking forward to it. I don't know if he'll practice right away. I know he's going to be there, whether he'll be in pads or not, I don't no. But he'll definitely be there (for the scrimmage).''

Pitt has two practices Tuesday, an early morning workout in shoulder pads and shorts that the quarterback won't likely make because the family would have to leave extremely early to arrive on time. A more likely scenario would have him arriving around lunch time and in time for player meetings.

The Panthers will hold their first intrasquad scrimmage during camp. It's scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. It isn't known if Bostick will take part in that scrimmage or not.

"I don't think he'll be thrown out there tomorrow,'' Pat Bostick Sr. said. "But I think he'll be competing relatively quickly for the starting quarterback job. The situation will just depend on how things play out.''

Bostick has missed seven training camp days and eight practices thus far.

"Pat has indicated that he plans on returning Tuesday morning,'' Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt said. "We certainly hope that's the case, and if indeed he does we will comment further then.''

Bostick, who played scholastically for Manheim Township, Pa. High School, was the Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year in 2006. He threw for 7,259 career yards.
