The University of Pittsburgh football team has been scouring the land for quality running backs. It appears their search may be over this week. A standout running back from New Jersey is very close to committing to the Panthers. Who is he? When will he commit? Read on.

“I have fourteen scholarship offers right now but my top four schools are Pitt, Maryland, Rutgers and South Florida,” stated physical running back Shariff Harris (6-foot-2 inches, 205 pounds) from St. Peters Preparatory School in Jersey City, NJ.

Harris rushed for 1,400 yards and scored 22 touchdowns in nine games a junior. He currently has rushed for just over 1,000 yards and scored 13 touchdowns as a senior.

“I was really excited about the offer from Pitt. I really like Coach David Walker. He’s been the main guy recruiting me and he would be my position coach at Pitt,” said Harris. “He already feels like my coach. We have developed a great relationship.”

When asked to describe his strengths, he stated, “To be honest, I’m not fancy, I’m just a physical north-south runner. I’m big and I can run a consistent 4.4 forty-yard dash. I recently was clocked at 4.38 seconds in the forty. I never let the first guy bring me down.”

“I watched the Panther play South Florida yesterday. There starting running back is really small,” said Harris. “I’m not saying he’s not good, but I think I can get them the extra yards the yards they are looking for. I bring size along with speed.”

Harris has set a December 8th official visit to Pitt. Scout.com ranks him a “three-star” recruit and the 55th best running back in the nation.

“I may commit to Pitt as soon as Monday. I was really excited about the offer and I have made up my mind. My family has always liked the Panthers. My dad has been a Pitt guy.”

“Coach (Dave) Wannstedt was happy to know I was visiting in December. He said it would give him time to get to know me better.”
