“Our first game went well. We beat Cleveland Benadictine 24-7 in the first game,” stated large wide receiver Kyle Hubbard (6-foot-5 inches, 215 pounds) from St. Edwards High School in Lakewood, OH. “I didn’t put up big numbers statistically. My coach wanted me to do more blocking. I feel like I opened a ton of holes for our running back.”
Hubbard caught 40 receptions for over 500 yards as a junior. He was named All-District, All-Conference and second team All-County. Kyle is a solid student with a 2.8 grade point average.
“My written offers are from Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Kent State, Bowling Green and Akron,” he said. “I’m in the process of setting up visits. Two schools that I’m definitely going to visit are Pittsburgh and Kentucky. I still like Michigan, Miami (FL) and Ohio State. They keep in close contact with me.”
When asked to comment further on the Pitt program, he stated, “Coach (Dave) Wannstedt brought in a really good recruiting class and he has the Panthers on the rise. Pittsburgh is close to home and my family could watch me play.”
Hubbard is a towering 6-foot-5 inches tall and lost roughly ten pounds over the summer. “I’m around 215 pounds right now. I worked out a lot over the summer and lost weight,” he said. “My weight loss has helped my speed and I’m probably running the forty-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.”
Kyle has a large frame capable of adding a significant amount of weight. He is primarily being recruited by Panthers’ Defensive Coordinator Paul Rhodes. Hubbard is currently the top tight end prospect on the Panthers radar screen. He weighed close to 225 pounds prior to summer conditioning.
“I want to get down there and spent time with Joe Thomas. We’re pretty good friends. Joe sends me instant messages all the time and he talks really high of Pitt.”
Hubbard was named All-District, All-Conference, and second team All-County honors as a junior.
“I’m looking forward to a big season. I have improved my game and I’m going to cause a lot of headaches for defensive backs. My size causes a lot of mismatches.”
“I’m very high on Pittsburgh and I can see myself playing there.”
