The Panthers received their 10th early verbal from Zach Slates, a guard from Perry High School in Massillon, PA.

Pitt lands dominating guard from Ohio

Zach is 6-3 305 lb’s and runs a 5.2 40.  Insiders.com’s report on Zach say’s “He is a tough, physical guard who is very strong.  There wont be many guards in Ohio this year in Zach’s league”.  His lifting stats are pretty amazing for someone who has yet to begin his senior year.  Zach can bench press 425 lb’s, squat 600 lb’s and power clean 330 lb’s. He also has a personal best 5.15 40. Zach was an All-Ohio selection after his junior year in which he helped lead his team to a 7-3 record. He started at tackle as a sophomore and helped lead his team to a 12-2 record. Zach said the main reasons why he selected Pitt was because of the facilities, coaching staff and proximity to his home. He also mentioned how beautiful he thought Heinz Field was. Assistant coach Bob Junko was the primary recruiter of Zach, but assistant coach Bob Ligashesky and the entire Panther coaching staff has a good relationship with Perry coach Keith Wakefield. Incoming Panther recruits Andy Alleman and David Abdul, who played for a rival school in Massillon, also helped recruit Zach. At the time Zach gave his verbal to Pitt, he was being recruited by South Carolina, Ohio State and Michigan, and had offers from Duke, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Bowling Green and Akron. Pitt’s two-deep at guard includes a senior and two juniors, so Zach couldn’t ask for a better situation to play early in his college career.
