The University of Pittsburgh held its Pro Timing Day on Saturday. Pitt hosted 30 blue-chip recruits during the event. A handful of those players happened to be standout local football players from Thomas Jefferson High School.

“I attended the Pro Day with Chris Drager and Lucas Nix,” stated Thomas Jefferson High School (Clairton, PA) standout athlete Dom DeCicco (6-foot-3 inches, 195 pounds).

“The event was pretty fun. We arrived there around 10:30 and watched Pitt’s junior work out. After that they brought out some of the seniors trying to get drafted and we watched them workout for professional scouts. I kept an eye on Charles Spencer, Greg Lee and Josh Lay. All of them looked pretty good.”

DeCicco recently attended the Scout.com All-American combine in Pittsburgh, PA. He performed exceptionally well and opened many an eye. Dom was one of the top fiver performers in four of the five events. He was the #1 performer in the broad jump, pro-shuttle drill and 3-cone drill. At nearly 200 pounds, DeCicco ran the forty-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.

“My favorites right now are Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia, Iowa and Ohio State,” he said. “Chris (Drager) and I are a little disappointed we don’t have an offer yet from Pitt but we remain really interested. We go to almost every activity they have.”

DeCicco has been a three year starter. He is capable of playing wide receiver, safety and cornerback on the next level. Although most schools prefer him at safety, he stated the Panthers’ coaching staff may have other ideas. “We spoke with several of the coaches there. Coach (Dave) Wannstedt, Coach (Bob) Junko and Coach (Curtis) Bray spoke with me. They told me they were very interested in me and that they like me at outside linebacker.”

“The Pro-Day was fun. It was pretty interesting to see how that whole process works,” stated Chris Drager (6-foot-4 inches, 230 pounds). “The Pitt coaches basically told me they are going to keep a close eye on me. They told Dom the same thing. We have always liked the Panthers we’re going to stay patient.”

Drager is capable of playing tight end and defensive end on the next level. He caught 17 passes for 265 yards on offense. Chris registered 53 tackles and 9 sacks on defense. He is capable of running a 4.8 forty-yard dash, bench pressing 270 pounds and squatting 315 pounds.

“I’m not sure if I prefer offense or defense. Part of me leans towards tight end. Most schools, including Pitt, are recruiting me to play on defense. I have the frame add weight and not lose a step.”
