Tamarcus Porter a Panther

Florida athlete Tamarcus Porter (6 foot, 170 pounds) from Pahokee High School in Pahokee, FL became the Panthers 26th member of the class of 2006 today when he faxed his letter of intent to the University of Pittsburgh.

"Tamarcus Porter is officially a Panther," stated Earnest Bussey, Tamarcus Porters' father. "Panther fans need to understand that he's a very shy person. He wanted to commit to the Panther yesterday but he was overwhelmed by the reporters and publicity."

"We sat down today as a family and decided to send in his letter of intent. We're very proud of him and excited to know that he's a Panther."

Porter is being recruited by Panthers' assistant coach Charlie Partridge. He attended Royal Palm Beach High School last season. Tamarcus caught 11 catches for 122 yards on offense and registered 50 tackles and 6 interceptions on defense. He is capable of playing wide receiver and cornerback on the next level.

"I think the Panthers' assistant Aubrey Hill made the difference. Coach Hill is very spiritual and we felt that he would help Tamarcus grow on and off the field. We have a deep faith and it was nice to see that type of faith come from a coach."

Porter is capable of running the forty-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. He is a solid student with a 3.0 grade point average and 19 on his ACT. Scout.com ranks Tamarcus the 62nd best safety prospect in the nation. Porter's teammate and cousin Ricky Gary signed with the Panthers on Wednesday.

"They haven't talked about it yet, but I'm sure Tamarcus will eventually room with Ricky. Those two are very close. If you know Ricky, he had no problem with the publicity yesterday. He's a talker! We're happy to see our son going to Pittsburgh with him."
