For Thomas, It's All Like a Family

Joe Thomas

If Pittsburgh fans had doubts about Joe Thomas and how solid his verbal commitment was prior to this weekends official visit, they can rest easy now. Thomas spoke to Scout.com about his visit and his friendships that have blossomed with his fellow Pitt commits.

The nation's 20th ranked offensive lineman was in Pittsburgh this weekend for his official visit. Joe Thomas a highly touted four-star offensive lineman from St. Edward High in Lakewood, Ohio, had Pittsburgh fans on edge after his official visit to Ohio State. Thomas who committed to Pittsburgh over the summer had its chance to host Thomas this weekend and make a final impression.

"Mike McGlynn was my host and I had a great time," Thomas said. "On Friday we went to a presentation by Mike Kent the strength and conditioning coach. Then we went to eat at Dave & Buster's. We then went and hung out at Chris Vangas's house.

On Saturday Thomas also got a chance to meet up with a few other Pitt commitments.

"On Saturday, we went through some academic presentations and toured the campus. We went and saw the Cathedral of Learning. Then we went to "The Pete" and watched Pitt give Penn State a beat down. I loved the "Oakland Zoo" those guys are crazy and "The Pete" was real cool. (Jason) Pinkston, (Eric) Rodemoyer, (Dan) Loheyde, and Dorin (Dickerson) showed up at the game and we all hung out. Saturday night we went to Heinz Field and ate dinner and toured the locker rooms. That was the best part of the trip the whole experience at Heinz Field."

Did the trip to Pittsburgh solidify his pledge to Pitt?

"I was solid before I went, but yes, I'm going to Pittsburgh. I'm good friends with all these guys. Everyone in this class has jelled and we're real close like a family."
