Pitt was able to open their
first NCAA tournament game since 1993 on a good note by hitting a three but
fell into early trouble by allowing Central Connecticut St. to follow with a
nine point run. The teams traded baskets
for the rest of the half, leaving Pitt holding on to a 29-25 halftime lead.
Pitt was able to extend the
lead early in the second half and never relinquished the lead again. The victory was punctuated with under a
minute remaining when Julius Page came up with a steal and delivered one of his
signature windmill dunks. Although Page
was seen with an ice pack on his arm for a bruise he received from the dunk, he
said the injury was not a concern.
In the press conference
following the game, Brandin Knight was visibly upset when questions about his
injured leg continued. He proclaimed emphaticly
“The leg is fine.” He also stated that no
matter how many times they asked the question, the answer would stay the
same. This was good to hear. Although Knight asked that the questions about
the leg stop, let’s hope they continue to annoy him all the way to the Final
Four.
