Florida head coach Urban Meyer came to Pahokee (Fla.) and gave
cornerback Ricky Gary, 5-9 and 177 pounds, quite the compliment
recently.
"He told me I'm the best corner he's seen in the state, they want to
wait until summer camp when I go against some big wide receivers before
they offer," Gary said.
Florida was just one of the schools that came into the school to see
Gary, others included Wisconsin, Ohio State, Boston College, NC State,
Marshall, Bowling Green, and Western Michigan.
Gary picked up a few more offers this week.
"Minnesota, Iowa State, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Wisconsin offered,"
Gary said. "They all on paper except Wisconsin.
The standout corner now holds offers from Pittsburgh, South Florida,
Akron, Middle Tennessee, Wake Forest, Kansas, Ole Miss, and North Carolina.
"Right now my favorites are probably Florida, Pittsburgh, and
Minnesota," Gary said. “Florida has always been my favorite, but
Pittsburgh has a very good shot.”
Gary, and his Pahokee teammates are gearing up for their spring game
against American Heritage this weekend. He is out to show those that
doubt him because of his size that they are dead wrong.
"I'm ready to show the world, I'm ready for my senior season," Gary
said. "I'm going to make an impact. They talk about my size, size don't
matter when it comes to being an athlete. I'm gonna do it for the
rabbits."
Note: Those who are unfamiliar with Pahokee will not get the
meaning behind the rabbits, but we know what Mr. Gary is saying.
Gary earned 2nd team All-State honors a year ago with 61 tackles, five
interceptions, 25 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and three
fumble recoveries. Also an outstanding punt returner who brought back 16
kicks for 312yds and two touchdowns.
