Panthers land local lineman

Dave Wannstedt called West Allegheny (Pa.) offensive/defensive lineman C.J. Davis and ask him "How do you feel about Pitt" Davis quickly responded, "I love it" the rest was history.

Wannstedt asked Davis if he would commit if they offered and Davis said, "I want to be a Panther, yes I will commit". Davis and his family are heading to Pittsburgh this weekend to pick up his paperwork and take an official visit.

C. J. Davis, 6-3 and 280 pounds, is being brought in as a guard/center. Newly hired offensive line coach Paul Dunn was recruiting Davis while he was at Kentucky.

"Coach Dunn always liked me as an offensive lineman, Kentucky needed defensive lineman so that's what they wanted me for," Davis said.

Pittsburgh officially offered Davis yesterday, and the standout athlete couldn't of been happier as Coach Wannstedt visited West Allegheny.

"The old staff really didn't recruit me much, I never showed much interest either," Davis said. "I started going to games there and stuff, it's a great school and it grew on me I love it there."

Davis had taken previous visits to Bowling Green (1/14), Boston College (1/21), Akron (12/3), Kentucky (12/10). "I liked the trips, but my heart was in Pittsburgh," Davis said

Academically Davis still has some work to do.

"When my final report card comes out in June I'll be fine, My core has to go up from a 2.3 to a 2.4," Davis said.

What is Davis' take on the new regime in Pittsburgh?

"We're going to be a powerhouse in the Big East, as long as we keep getting big recruits," Davis said.

Davis is the fourth WPIAL player to commit to coach Wannstedt since the beginning of January.
