Following Marino's footsteps

The last time the University of Pittsburgh had a signal caller from Pittsburgh Central Catholic, was back in the days of Dan Marino. Today the Panthers received a commitment from another Viking quarterback Shane Murray.

Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic quarterback Shane Murray (6-2, 195, 4.6) announced today at a press conference that he would be attending the University of Pittsburgh.

"I've always wanted to go to Pitt, Dan Marino had great success there and hopefully I can continue the tradition," Murray said. "I'll get two years to learn from Tyler Palko who played quarterback and Safety in high school the same as me.

Murray led the Vikings to the PIAA Class AAAA title game the last two seasons, with them finally capturing the title this season. Murray passed for 1,485 yards and 20 touchdowns. He ran for 476 yards and 4 touchdowns. On defense Murray registered 60 tackles, 5 interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.

Murray was named 1st team Associated Press Class AAAA All-State, 1st team All-Conference, 1st team All-WPIAL Class AAAA by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and the Tribune-Review, Harrisburg Patriot-News Platinum 33 team, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "Fab 22", and the Tribune-Review "Terrific 25".

Murray is the 17th verbal for Pittsburgh, and the seventh Western Pennsylvania player to commit to the Panthers.
