Introducing Greg Lewis

Greg Lewis talks about what he likes about his first group at Pittsburgh. He also gives us a surprising answer about the favorite part of his new home.

Through two spring practices, it's evident that Greg Lewis is big on a lot of hands drills.

His reasons for doing so are a big part of his philosophy, and pretty self-explanatory.

"Body catching, that's the one thing for me when recruiting a guy," Lewis said. "I want to see him be able to catch the ball away from his body. You want to use your hands. That's why you've got them."

An added bonus is that Lewis doesn't have to retool, or rebuild this position. He returns Tyler Boyd, who had the best freshman season in school history for a receiver. He also has a unique talent in Manasseh Garner, and he has another experienced returner in Ronald Jones.

Moreso than anything else, Lewis will be counted on to develop a number of younger receivers, who simply have to wait their turn. That is the big reason he decided to come to Pittsburgh--not the marquee type of names.

"Tyler did have a tremendous year, and I'm here to help him further that," Lewis said. "I'm also here to help everyone else in the receiver group to get better. That's my big thing--getting better each day. My job is to get them better each day, and to help them get ready for Saturday, or whenever we play."

Lewis played in some cold NFL cities such as Minnesota and Philadelphia, and he played collegiately at Illinois. Therefore, it might not be too surprising to hear him say that his favorite thing about being in Pittsburgh is the weather, a type of climate he actually prefers.

"I like the weather," Lewis said. "I've been in California for the past two and a half years. It's always 70 and sunny. I need something to look different. I'm from the Midwest, so I like the feel of a little chill in the morning."
