Decision day is here for Gateway safety Montae Nicholson.
Nicholson is expected to choose between Pittsburgh and Michigan State, today at 2 pm, at a special ceremony at his high school.
Michigan State was Nicholson's first visit back on September 6. He took visits to Pittsburgh (September 28), Florida State (October 5), Oregon (October 25) and Virginia Tech (November 15).
A close friend of his, former Jeannette standout Demetrious Cox, is a redshirt freshman defensive back for the Spartans. He played in all 13 games this season. There's no question there's an added incentive, committing to a team playing in the Rose Bowl.
With Pitt, in addition to the hometown lure, former teammate Jaymar Parrish saw significant playing time as an H-back this season as a true freshman.
Nicholson will play in next month's U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio. This past season, Nicholson helped Gateway to a 8-3 overall record, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the Quad-A WPIAL playoffs. On offensive, Nicholson caught 41 passes for 810 yards and 11 touchdowns. Defensively, he racked up 68 tackles, including four for losses. He also intercepted three passes and forced one fumble. On special teams, he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.
