Wade Freebeck helped his St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) team to a 16-6 win over Plantation, clinching a district title in the process. Freebeck ran for a 10-yard touchdown run earlier then the game, then helped clinch the win with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Deltron Sands in the fourth quarter. Freebeck completed 14-24 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown pass.
In Virginia, it was Bishop Sullivan claiming its first Tidewater Conference title, in a 42-13 win over Norfolk Academy. Bishop Sullivan improves to 10-0 on the season. Four-star receiver Jamil Kamara finished with five catches for 54 yards and a touchdown. He is expected to take his official visit this weekend.
Philadelphia (PA) West Catholic defeated Neumann-Goretti 34-9 on Saturday, claiming the Class AA Catholic League Championship. Pitt commit Patrick Amara--matched up with Syracuse commit Jamal Custis for a second time this season--held Custis to just one reception, while coming up with an interception of his own. The Burrs advance in the state playoffs.
Despite the loss of Pitt commit Adam Bertke, keep an eye on Marion Local (OH). The Flyers improved to 10-0 on Friday night with a 42-6 win over New Bremen. Not only did they clinch a perfect regular season, but the Flyers clinched a conference title, as they aim for a third consecutive state title.
Salesianum (DE) improved to 8-1 with an impressive 49-0 win over Delcastle. The Sals head for the postseason with a big showdown this Friday with Middletown. Pitt commit Brian O'Neill caught a touchdown pass in the win, his seventh of the season.
Perkiomen Valley (8-2) closed its regular reason with a 28-7 win over Upper Perkiomen. Rasaan Stewart, who holds a Pitt offer, threw for three touchdown passes in his team's win. The Vikings open its postseason run this weekend.
The WPIAL playoffs opened this past weekend. Gateway opened with a 33-21 win over North Hills. A pair of uncommitted prospects with Pitt offers came up big. Four-star safety Montae Nicholson caught a 44-yard touchdown pass, and three-star cornerback prospect Anthony Davis caught a 27-yarder in the win. The Gators advance to take on Central Catholic, led by Florida State commit J.J. Cosentino.
In Triple-A, Central Valley opened with a 40-7 win over Belle Vernon. Four-star 2015 prospect Jordan Whitehead made his presence known, with a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown, and a 77-yard kickoff return for a score. The Warriors advance to play Mars in the Quarterfinals.
Mars eliminated Elizabeth Forward, 38-21. Elizabeth Forward is led by Pitt commit JaQuan Davidson threw for 162 yards and rushed for two touchdowns in the loss.
In Class AA, it was top-seed Aliquippa with a 41-0 win over South Park. The Quips advance to take on Quaker Valley. Four-star corner Dravon Henry rushed for two touchdowns, as did fellow running back Terry Swanson. Swanson led the Quips with 103 yards on the ground.
Keep an eye on Pittsburgh (PA) North Catholic in Class A. The Trojans opened postseason play with a 24-0 win over Western Beaver. P.J. Fulmore, a 2015 prospect, threw for 100 yards on 7-9 passing in just his second game at quarterback. Fulmore typically plays at running back and corner.
A big showdown this weekend will be between top-seed Sto-Rox and Apollo-Ridge. Sto-Rox opened with a 36-7 win over Avella. Brendan Blair ran for two scores, and caught another. Quarterback Lenny Williams threw for three touchdowns, including an 80-yarder to Mallory Claybourne.
Apollo-Ridge opened the postseason with a 42-28 win over Beth Center. Tre Tipton, a 2015 prospect, caught touchdown passes of 48 and 82 in his team's win.
