Pitt's passing game wasn't really on, but it didn't take Pitt out of the game. Tom Savage still completed 11 of 18 passes for 195 yards, and for a second week in a row he rushed for a score.
The star of the game was Isaac Bennett, who rushed for 240 yards on 30 carries, with three rushing scores.
Whether it was by design in the absence of other players such as James Conner and Devin Street, Bennett rose to the challenge on Saturday and made the difference on offense.
Ray Vinopal came up with the lone turnover of the game, a fourth quarter interception that helped clinch the win at the end.
Head coach Paul Chryst used multiple extra defensive back packages, at times that included freshmen Terrish Webb, Titus Howard and redshirt freshman Trenton Coles.
Senior Jason Hendricks relishes the opportunity to lead his group, and make sure the freshmen understand where to be.
