Florida State HEAD COACH JIMBO FISHER
“It was one ball game guys," Fisher said. "That’s it. He did a great job. As long as he keeps the process in mind and working with great habits, he will be fine."
Fisher was impressed with his freshman wuarterback's debut, but cautioned it was only one game. He wasn't disappointed, or looking for more. He stands guarded, knowing it's just one game.
Florida STATE QUARTERBACK Jameis Winston
Winston was just as guarded. He didn't credit himself, as much as he credite those around him--particularly his offensive line, which allowed just one sack in 27 passing attempts. Winston credited his offensive line, as well as the experience around him at other positions, in allowing him to be as productive as he was in his first start.
"I know the reason I was having a good night was because of the guys around me having a better night," Winston said. "I knew we were going to come out there and lay it out on the line."
FLORIDA STATE CORNERBACK Lamarcus Joyner
From a defensive standpoint, and despite allowing Devin Street to come up with 141 receiving yards, Florida State's defense answered the call.
Lamarcus Joyner came up with a team-high nine tackles, including two sacks. He was quick to credit Street and Boyd with a good game.
"(Street) was a guy that was going to get his," Joyner said. "He's a great player, an NFL receiver in my opinion. He had a few good catches, and we expected that."
PITT RECEIVER DEVIN STREET
As Joyner said, Street was going to get his. He did that, with a career-high 141 yards. Of course, Street would certainly trade the stats for a win.
"I think guys were trying to do too much," Street said. "We just have to do our job individually. That's when the team comes together."
PITT RECEIVER Tyler Boyd
Boyd finished with 151 all-purpose yards--not a bad debut; certainly showing he's lived up to the hype. It will be interesting to see how much more Boyd is incorporated in the offense. He certainly looks like he can handle more responsibility.
He finished with 54 rushing yards on three carries, 26 receiving yards on two catches, and 71 return yards on three kicks.
"I was very surprised at how easy (the game speed) was," Boyd said. "When we first ran with the jet sweep, I didn't think it was going to be that open. Totally comfortable. It was good. It felt great to put the ball in my hands."
PITT QUARTERBACK Tom Savage
Savage threw for 201 yards, a touchdown, but he was sacked three times and picked off twice.
He is looking forward to improvement, but wasn't pleased with the two picks he threw.
"Florida State is a good defense," Savage said. "We have to watch the film. I think I have to shake some cob webs off, but I actually had fun out there and enjoyed myself."
