Here's a rundown of a few of the things Pitt head coach Paul Chryst talked about, on this morning's ACC teleconference.
The Opener, beginning play in the ACC
"We're excited to be joining the ACC, we get to start it off in grand fashion. We certainly have a tremendous amount of respect for Florida State. We certainly have to take advantage of our preparations."
On facing a new defensive coordinator at Florida State
"There's certain challenges with it. still think, obviously, the opponent matters. I still think a lot of football, you concern yourself with the things you know. That's the situation you're in."
Status of Pitt's running backs
"We don't know exactly. Isaac Bennett has been able to practice the last couple of days, James Conner and Rachid Ibrahim got the bulk of reps in fall camp. Right now I think it will be a bit of a running back by committee."
On playing Florida State
"We're excited about that, in house here, and we're just excited to start the season. The amount of respect for Florida State. I'm anxious to find out about our players. either in new roles, or first time playing. We're going to find out who we are. As a coach, I'm excited to play a game with them."
On starting quarterback Tom Savage
"We did name Tom our starting quarterback, he was ineligible to play last year because of the transfer. He's a guy who played early in his career, but hasn't played for awhile. There will be some natural adjustment for him. He's certainly a talented quarterback, I'm excited to see him play; working with and getting a good feel for guys on our team. I'm excited for him. It's been a long time for him."
Importance of recruiting in Florida
"Yeah, I think it does. We want to make sure we do a great job recruiting Pennsylvania and western Pennsylvania. [Florida] is [a priority]; obviously the exposure, guys able to see games. We feel like its helped. Recruits are very receptive to it. It's a logical place to branch out."
