PGT Trucking improved to 2-0 with a 97-87 win over UPMC.
Talib Zanna is averaging 24 points a game through the first two games this summer, as he finished with 21 on Wednesday night. He also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, the most of any player in all three games.
Two other players joined Zanna with 20 or more points--22 from Robert Morris' Dave Appolon, and 21 from the Colonials' Elijah Thompson.
Though PGT lost the overall edge in rebounding, 35-26, a 41-65 (63.1%) shooting performance was the difference.
Also scoring in double-figures for PGT was Britton Lee (18) and Desjuan Newton (12)--both from Robert Morris.
Pitt's Durand Johnson led UPMC with 27 points, which included a 13-14 performance from the free throw line. Freshman Josh Newkirk added 13 in the losing effort, while Robert Morris duo Lucky Jones and Charles Oliver added 18 points and 12 points, respectively.
Oliverio's Peppers 100 South Hills Audi 91
Oliverio's Peppers rebounded off a loss Monday, with the summer's first 100-point performance, in a 100-91 win over South Hills Audi, who made their league debut.
Pitt's Cameron Wright led all scorers Wednesday night with 31 points on 12-19 (63.2%) shooting, in his team's win.
Pitt's Chris Jones finished with 20 points, followed by West Virginia's Brandon Watkins and Terry Henderson, who finished with 17 points and 16 points, respectively. Pitt's Derrick Randall led his team with 10 rebounds.
South Hills Audi, represented by a number of alumni and professional overseas players, was led by former Pitt star Chevon Troutman. Troutman finished with 29 points, followed by Cornell's Nolan Cressler with 21.
Thanks to Randall's efforts, Oliverio's Peppers held a 37-29 edge in rebounding.
SPK 80 GNC 79
For a second night in a row, the final game of the night was decided by a single point, as SPK Law held off GNC 80-79.
Lamar Patterson led five SPK players in double-figures, with 20 points. Joining him was Shawn Amiker (Youngstown State) with 15, Pitt's Mike Lecak and Mike Young with 11 apiece, and Jeremiah Worthen (Robert Morris) with 10.
Young also had a team-high eight rebounds, giving him an average of nine rebounds per game through the first two. Despite his efforts, SPK was outrebounded 33-32.
Karvel Anderson (Robert Morris) led the way, in a losing effort, with 22 points for GNC, followed by Derrick Colter (Duquesne) with 17.
