Pitt adds local prospect Quintin Wirginis and Virginia defensive lineman Mike Herndon on Thursday, bring their commit total to nine.

This time a week ago, Pitt had one commit. As of Thursday night, the Panthers have a class of nine. Fox Chapel (PA) linebacker Quintin Wirginis--offered on Tuesday--decided Pitt was where he wanted to be. The Panthers got another out-of-state player in Staunton (VA) Riverheads offensive tackle Mike Herndon.

Though listed as an offensive tackle by Scout, the 6-5, 320-pound Herndon projects as a defensive tackle.

"Yes sir, it's a great feeling," Wirginis said, after informing Panther Digest of his commitment.

Even after getting the offer Tuesday, Wirginis went back down to Pitt for another visit. He quickly weighed out his options, and decided Pitt was where he wanted to be.

"The visit went great yesterday, it couldn't have gone any better," Wirginis said. "I was trying to weigh out my options. One of the deciding factors was location. Pitt is a great university, and the coaching staff is wonderful. I think it's going to be great playing for my hometown."

A minor factor, is being reunited with former Fox Chapel teammate Adam Bisnowaty.

"We actually are pretty good friends," Wirginis said. "My sophomore year, he was a senior. Even then, I would have never imagined we'd be on the same team at Pitt."

Also the fact Wirginis can just get his decision out of the way, and focus strictly on his senior season.

"Actually, my first offer was from VMI, so even then, it was becoming real," Wirginis said. "I was getting offers from other schools, but it's great to have it out of the way. I'm still making important decisions, but now I just get up every morning and working out; getting ready for this season and the next level."

Wirginis says he will start of as a middle linebacker when he gets to Pitt. He led the team in tackles and forced fumbles as a junior, and also had six sacks and an interception. He also worked out at tight end at Pitt's prospect camp on Friday, and could easily fit in there too.

With Herndon's commitment out of the state of Virginia, Pitt has nine commits from five total states; four from Pennsylvania, two from Michigan, one from Ohio, one from New York and now one from Virginia.
