Cards set to host another Miami standout

Lamar Robbins

The University of Louisville football staff is courting yet another player from the Miami-area – Southridge High School cornerback Lamar Robbins. He'll be one of the players making official visits to Louisville this weekend.

The University of Louisville football team has a pair of players from Miami Southridge High School on its roster – Andrew Johnson and Gerod Holliman.

U of L coach Charlie Strong is trying to add a third and will have that player – cornerback Lamar Robbins – in town this weekend as one of the players on official visits with the Cardinals' program.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Robbins, who is Holliman's cousin, has already visited West Virginia, Purdue and Oklahoma and will arrive in Louisville on Friday. He said his fifth visit would be to either Arkansas or Cincinnati.

"I am looking forward to coming there," Robbins said. "Louisville has some good players and some guys that I already know, so I am looking forward to it."

After already making three visits, Robbins said what he's hearing and seeing from schools is "getting kind of repetitive."

"I almost know what I am going to see and hear," he said with a laugh. "They have good facilities and will take me through them and show me how good the academics are and how they are going to help me.

"They'll show me how they run the football program.

Robbins said Oklahoma would be the "best visit so far," but said he knows U of L will have something that others don't and that's players he's "really close," too.

"Andrew Johnson and Gerod, we are really close," Robbins said. "They love it up there. Louisville has a lot of guys from Miami and that's big."

Robbins said he wasn't sure when he would take his fifth visit but hopes to make a decision before signing day next month.

Robbins also played wide receiver in high school. He had over 30 scholarship offers from schools all over the country.
