The University of Louisville baseball staff has targeted a lot of prospects in the Class of 2014, including one of the top players in Michigan. Left-handed pitcher Brad Schaenzer of Lake Orion, Mich., will take a visit to U of L next month.

Lake Orion, Mich., Community High School left-handed pitcher Brad Schaenzer is one of the top left-handed pitches in the country in the Class of 2014.

The 6-foot-2 Schaenzer has a bunch of schools after him but said the University of Louisville is in his top three and will get a visit next month.

”Louisville is one of my top three right now,” he said. “They have a really good pitching coach (Roger Williams) and I’ve heard a nice campus, which is great for college life. I’m going to visit sometime around January.”

Schaenzer said he also has offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky and West Point. PerfectGame.org ranks Schaenzer as the No. 7 overall prospect in Michigan and the No. 30 left-handed pitcher in the country.

As a sophomore last season, Schaenzer went 9-3 for Lake Orion with 110 strikeouts and just 23 earned runs in 68 innings.

Schaenzer said when his change-up is on that it’s his “dominate pitch,” while he’s been clocked in the high 80s with his fastball and has a tight curveball.

While he’s been getting college attention for a while now, Schaenzer said it “feels really good,” to see it pick up like it has in recent months.

”I love it,” he said.

With the U of L program, Schaenzer said he has been in contact with the entire staff but said Williams is a major draw because of his background with pitchers.

”I had heard about the pitching coach before and then they contacted me,” Schaenzer said of U of L. “They targeted me right then.”

Schaenzer is also a standout in football and until this season played basketball for Lake Orion. He played wide receiver, linebacker and punter in football.

”I just love to hit people,” he said.
