Robinson Big East Rookie Of The Week

James Robinson averaged 11 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds, helping Pitt to two victories last week.

Providence, R.I.—University of Pittsburgh freshman guard James Robinson (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha Catholic H.S.) was named the Big East Conference Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday by the league office. Robinson became the first Pitt freshman to earn Big East Rookie of the Week honors since DeJuan Blair last garnered the award on January 14, 2008.

In Pitt's two weekly wins, Robinson averaged 11.0 points, 7.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 32.0 minutes played per game. He also shot 60 percent (9-15) from the floor and hit three 3-pointers. Against Detroit on Dec. 1, he scored 11 points with a career-high five field goals and six assists in a 74-61 win. Against Howard, he totaled 11 points (4-6 FG), hit a career-high two 3-pointers and finished with a career-high eight assist in 31 minutes of action.

On the season, Robinson averages 7.3 points and 3.9 assists per game. He has started the first eight games of his career at point guard and leads the Panthers in minutes played (30.3). He currently ranks No. 2 in the Big East Conference with a 4.43 assist:turnover ratio and is tied for 15th in assists (3.88).
