Mike Shanahan is a good example on many levels.after his redshirt freshman year in 2009, he had the opportunity to make his first career start in the Meineke Car Care Bowl against North Carolina that year.
He says back then, the bowl game was a reward for the underclassmen, meaning that in the weeks leading up to the game, they were given a breather. Younger players like him we given a chance to start in that game. Along with Shanahan, other younger players such as Chris Jacobson and Dan Mason were given their first career starts in that game,
Here, Shanahan talks about what it's like on the other side, now as the older player who gets a chance to watch the younger players take advantage of the extra 15 practices. Of course, none of this is possible without a win at South Florida on Saturday.
