Butler beats MU on Clarke's Desperation Three

LAHAINA, Hawaii---Rotnei Clarke's three point shot put from 26 feet beat Marquette 72-71 in the first game of the Maui Classic. Clarke drove the length of the court with less than 8 seconds left and hit a running one hander from about 25 feet in front of the Butler[2-1] bench.

Marquette[2-1] had taken a 3 point lead when Jake Thomas rebounded a Junior Cadougan missed three and put it back in while being fouled. His FT put MU up 70-67 with 30.9 seconds left. An Erik Fromm tip in cut the lead to 70-69 with 12 seconds to go when Clarke fouled Cadougan on the inbounds play with 8 seconds to play.

Cadougan made the first FT but missed his second free throw. Butler had no timeouts so they rebounded the miss and gave the ball up to Clark who dribbled the ball up court against the double team Marquette defense of G Derrick Wilson and F Jamil Wilson before hitting the three pointer with Derrick Wilson all over him.

Butler was lead by Kyle Marshall who had 24 points and nine rebounds for Butler. MU was lead by Vander Blue who scored 21 points.

Vander Blue led MU with 21 pts.
