Preseason NIT Opponents Announced

Pitt will face Fordham on November 12 to open the NIT Tip-Off. If they win, they face the winner of a Lehigh-Robert Morris matchup on November 13. If Pitt wins both games, they advance to the NIT Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden the following week.

INDIANAPOLIS—The NIT selection committee released the University of Pittsburgh's complete four-game 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off men's basketball schedule on Tuesday.

Pitt will play four total games in the NIT Season Tip-Off event, including two games at the Petersen Events Center. Pitt will host Fordham on Monday, Nov. 12 (6 p.m. on ESPN3), then play either Robert Morris or 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Lehigh on Tuesday, Nov. 13 (9 p.m. on ESPNU).

The entire schedule is listed below. The NIT Season Tip-Off is organized in a bracket format. Should Pitt win both preliminary games, it would advance to the NIT Season Tip-Off Semifinal and Championship Rounds held over Thanksgiving weekend at New York's Madison Square Garden (Wednesday, Nov. 21 and Friday, Nov. 23). Both of those games would be played on national television. Potential opponents include other host schools: Michigan, Virginia and Kansas State.

Should Pitt not advance to the NIT Season Tip-Off Semifinals in New York, it would host two more NIT Season Tip-Off games at the Petersen Events Center on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20.
