Travon Woodall will have surgery for a sports hernia, whileJ.J. Moore will have surgery on his right foot.

Pittsburgh—University of Pittsburgh junior guard Tray Woodall (sports hernia) and sophomore forward J.J. Moore (fifth metatarsal) will both undergo respective surgeries on Friday morning, Pitt Basketball Coach Jamie Dixon announced on Thursday.

Woodall’s sports hernia surgery is the result of a groin strain and abdominal tear suffered last November. The surgery will be performed by Dr. George Eid at Presbyterian Hospital. Pitt athletic trainer Tony Salesi anticipates Woodall will make a full recovery and return to the court in two-to-three months.

Moore’s surgery on his right foot (fifth metatarsal) will take place Friday morning at UPMC South Side Hospital. He will undergo an ORIF procedure which will be performed by team physician Dr. Robin West. Salesi foresees that Moore will make a full recovery and return to the court in three months.

“We expect that Tray and J.J. will be 100 percent and back on the court with their teammates when fall practice begins in late August,” Dixon said.

Woodall missed nearly half of the 2011-12 season while recovering from his injury. He led the team in assists (171), averaged 11.7 points per game and accumulated five point-assist double-doubles. He is one of only 10 players in school history to record 400 or more assists in a career.

Pitt’s team Most Improved Player award recipient, Moore emerged off the bench as a top scorer for the Panthers. Over the season’s final 13 games, Moore averaged 11.8 points and reached double figure scoring in nine contests. He averaged 6.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and hit 37 3-pointers on the year.
