Holtz Closer To Decision?

J.P. Holtz

J.P. Holtz added a pair of new offers, and also talked about the latest with Pitt.

J.P. Holtz went to three camps this summer at Purdue, Notre Dame and Maryland. He picked up offers from Purdue and Maryland, and is waiting to hear from the Irish. He has western PA ties to both Purdue and Maryland. Former Pitt kicker, and current special teams coach at Purdue J.B. Gibboney is recruiting him, while former Pitt defensive line coach Greg Gattuso is recruiting him at Maryland.

"I worked out for Notre Dame, while the other two were unofficial visits," Holtz said. "(Notre Dame) went well. I'm still waiting to hear (from Notre Dame about an offer). They say they're going to let me know. I'm just waiting right now."

When it comes to the three local schools—Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia—the Panthers seem to be having the most contact with him. Holtz is a running back at Shaler, where he rushed for 14 touchdowns as a junior. He would be able to line up in the backfield for the Panthers, where they are recruiting him for the hybrid tight end/fullback position called the three-back. The position is unique from the other schools recruiting him, as Holtz would have the opportunity to carry the ball in Pitt's offense.

"I talk to Pitt pretty regularly," Holtz added. "I'm going to visit them again. I'm going down there on July 6, maybe. I haven't heard too much from Penn State or West Virginia."

Holtz said the recent conversations with the Pitt staff are mostly to check in, since he's been to the facilities a number of times. He was at the Pitt spring game back in April.

"It's just like a normal conversation," Holtz said, referring to Pitt. "We just talk about the school, and a little about the team."

Though he's done with camps for the summer, Holtz said his Shaler team will be at a local 7-on-7 at Upper St. Clair in July. The Titans will also open their regular season at Upper St. Clair, who is led by Northwestern commits Ian Park and Jack Schwaba, along with linebacker Dakota Conwell who as a Pitt offer.

Outside of that, Holtz has started to think about making a decision before the start of his senior season.

"I think I'm going to make a decision, I might try to make it before the season," Holtz adds. "It might be sometime soon."
