Interest For Jones Picks Up

Corey Jones

Penn Hills (PA) receiver Corey Jones picked up Receiver MVP honors this past week at the State College Nike Camp. He hopes to be on his way to be picking up more offers, as he looks toward his summer camp schedule.

The receiver group was one of the deeper groups at this past weekend's Nike Camp in State College. Four-star prospect Eugene Lewis was part of the group, but it was Penn Hills receiver Corey Jones that came away with MVP honors. Jones has offers from West Virginia, Cincinnati , Kansas, Kent State and Toledo.

The MVP honor caught Jones off guard.

"To be honest, I don't think I performed that well," Jones said. "I could have performed a little bit better. There was a little bit of competition there, and I liked that a lot. I was shocked I won MVP."

One of the reasons Jones was selected was because of his footwork. Jones is especially quick on his feet after the catch, and he spent a lot of time working on that heading into the camp.

"I go through a lot of footwork with explosions and lifting and everything, being quick off the line," Jones said. "Jumping in the air, footwork drills, just trying to get quicker, and lifting; bulking up.

"I learned a lot of stuff from the drills, like the new strobe glasses. They help your eyes. The linemen are big, so you don't see the quarterback. It gets your prepared for that."

Up next for Jones is a set of prospect camps, where he hopes to attract even more offers. He's not set on any dates, but he knows of a few schools he'll be going to camps at.

"I'm just waiting on the prospect camps and all that," Jones said. "Pitt, West Virginia, Toledo. I'm probably going to Penn State for one and Ohio State for one. I got offers from West Virginia and Toledo. The other schools are just waiting for me to come to their prospect camp, to see what they want to do from there."

As for those other schools Jones refers to, Pitt is at the top of the list.

"They're coming close (to offering), they're just thinking I could be light," Jones said. "I don't know what they want to do yet. I talked to them about coming down soon. They wanted me to come down, to just let them know. They said I could come down anytime."
