Coles The Next Clairton Star

Trenton Coles

Already a track star this past spring, Coles is making the jump to football star Last spring, as a sophomore, Trenton Coles placed in the top eight in the 100 (11.19), 200 (22.76), including a third-place finish in the 400 (48.48).

Coles comes from the same school that has produced current Pitt Panthers Manny Williams (2008) and Kevin Weatherspoon (2010), as well as 2011 verbal commit Desimon Green.

This fall, Coles has been an instrumental part of Clairton's early success--a 3-0 start for the Bears. Clairton holds the state's longest winning streak right now, at 18 games.

In Clairton's most recent game, they defeated Carlynton 60-6. Coles had five receptions for 148 yards and two touchdowns--all passes caught from Pitt commit, Desimon Green. He also had an interception on defense.

"The game was going well, and I ended up getting open on certain plays," Coles said. "My quarterback (Desimon Green) threw me the ball.

"The season has been going very well. It started off rocky at the beginning. We've been playing well as a team, and things are going well."

Hard to believe a 41-0 win in the opener would be considered a 'rocky start.' In three games, the Bears have outscored opponents 156-12.

Though his junior year is just a few weeks old, the letters have started coming in for Coles from some pretty reputable schools. He was at Pitt for the opener against New Hampshire, and will be there Thursday night for the Miami game.

"Pitt, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan State," Coles said, referring to schools he has received letters from so far. "The Pitt game was very nice. We got to stand on the sideline (before the game). They treated us real good--they set us right on the sideline. It was my first game, but I'm going again (for Miami)."

Any favorite players he liked to follow?

"I like Pitt," Coles added. "I like (Jon) Baldwin, I like Cam (Saddler). Overall, it was nice. We got to go in the locker room. We talked to Coach Wannstedt. It was nice."
